Echoes of Impunity: From Gaza to Mississippi, Systemic Injustice and the Deaths of Emmett Till and Nolan Wells

In addition to America’s new manufactured war with Iran, the consequences and effects of the ongoing genocide in Gaza is not isolated to the region. This genocide’s unholy audacity permeates the stench of flagrant barbarism that has forever changed the landscape of the globe, man’s inherent nature, instinct and civilization. And one can argue that this audacious stench has reached the burning backwoods of Mississippi where the KKK has long established roots and found cultural comfort.
Like the IDF carrying out the genocide in Palestine, their atrocities shamelessly broadcasted on social media, those charged with leading the investigation into Nolan Wells’ suspicious and undetermined cause of death, seem to be operating on the same frequency: “fuck what you see and know to be true, our flagrant crimes is our truth and your law. “
Ironically, this day in history, September 23, 1955, marks the acquittal of Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam by an all-white Mississippi jury for the brutal murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till. Decades later, the same patterns of institutional deception and racial neglect persist in the case of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells, whose suspicious death on Horn Island was recently met with a grand jury’s refusal to indict, leaving his official cause of death undetermined despite clear evidence of blunt force trauma, including audio from the “sinking” boat.
Folks, the alarms are still going off about the direction of a nation in chaos, as the lynching years are making a return like demons marching in. Black people are being hanged from trees across the South, and racially motivated cases involving young Black men getting gunned down are being judged with the historic bitter taste of betrayal and injustice Black people know too well.
Nolan Xavier Wells is yet another victim of anti-Black behavior and the racist instinct of certain politically and socially constructed “white” people, long stained with colonial blood and an inhumane evil that keeps a planet full of people in their grip of barbarism and terror; outgrowth of white supremacy. European crimes against humanity has a long tail like Smaug that circles the globe as it pleases, destroying civilizations, their history and culture, and stealing wealth.
This “lineage of evil” didn’t change its stripe when it “discovered America” by killing the natives.
It didn’t change pattern when it brought along enslaved women to carry out their theft of land, wealth and resources.
It didn’t change its spots when it justified the enslavement of African people to build a nation only they wanted to be free in.
And this evil entity certainly didn’t reshape itself like T-1000 when it told the world Mississippi was Burning with racism and Klan crosses.
You see, if Israel can kill Palestinians with impunity, burning their children alive on television for the world to witness, certainly the suspiciously secretive DA in charge of the Nolan Wells case, including her posse of law enforcement performers, can cover up the murder of another young Black boy in America.
Long before Donald Trump took his position for The Third Reich cause, this demonic, colonial-minded white audacity was already flexing and spitting its venom for the world to see and judge. Counting every manufactured war from hemisphere to hemisphere, it’s not hard to surmise that America’s main business after being propagated from Great Britain, is world domination and hegemony under the ruse of spreading democracy, human rights and freedom, with weapons of mass destruction. From blowing up fishing boats in the Caribbean’s and the Gulf of Mexico, to siccing ICE agents across American cities who are killing and targeting certain demographics of people, to kidnapping a sitting president and invading the country to loot its oil and resources. Trump is also isolating Cuba and keeping its population hungry, sick and in the dark, and threatening our allies, claiming their territory, renaming sacred bodies of water and land and starting illegal wars without consent from Congress… causing the deaths of thousands of innocent people, including an entire school full of children in Iran. The atrocities being birthed from Israel’s unrestrained genocide of Palestinian people to steal Palestine, are too numerous to list here. Still, it is setting a precedent.
This posture of institutional arrogance, gaslighting and denial mirror broader patterns in foreign and domestic policy. As commentator Glenn Greenwald observed: “It’s always strange how the US uses its unparalleled military and economic power to strangle and suffocate… then points to the intended devastation as proof that those countries are bad and don’t work, with no reference to the US role.” Power without accountability breeds devastation both abroad and at home.
The invisible underbelly fueling the genocide of Palestinians, including the instability of Africa, has a global audience at the United Nations.
And Trump, once again, made a complete fool of himself, including violating the UN Charter, all while holding Americans hostage like a petulant snot-nosed child holding a weary kitten by the neck. The naked emperor hollers incoherently from the global stage, “”In January, at my direction, the United States military conducted a massive military operation penetrating deep into the Venezuelan capital … it was a war. To the victor belong the spoils.”
If this administration can wreak complete havoc to all political and social norms; break laws, erase racial progress, legislate with executive orders, join Israel in killing anyone and stealing anything, anywhere, with impunity… Why can’t the “Lily-white” Angel Myers McIlrath, District Attorney for the 19th Circuit Court District, in Jackson County, MS, where poplar trees still produce “Strange Fruit,” bold-face lie in the public’s face about the killing of Nolan Wells? Her callousness, like an IDF brute, is profound and deplorable.

Public reporting after the grand jury’s Friday, Sept. 18 close found both pathologists listed drowning as a diagnosis of exclusion. Jurors noted bruising on the back of the head that was not fatal and disagreement between examiners over other marks. A witness described Wells slipping from a boat and then continuing to socialize. The grand jury also rejected claims that the death was racially motivated and said Wells chose to remain on the island after friends left by boat. Mississippi has no statute of limitations on homicide. The report left open the possibility of future presentation if new credible evidence appears. Both medical examiners ruled Nolan Wells’ death as inconclusive, which means a deeper investigation must commence.
